Back to School Bash - Sat. August 21, 10am - 1pm
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL
With the first day of school right around the corner, the YMCA of Broward County is hosting a “Back to School Bash” at the L.A. Lee YMCA Family Center located at 408 NW 14th Terrace in Fort Lauderdale.
Those who complete the Treasure Hunt will receive a free backpack filled with school supplies, courtesy of Office Depot, YMCA members and friends of the Y. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will consist of stations, each focusing on different initiatives, including: youth development (featuring relay races, basketball shoot, and family fitness), healthy living (featuring displays by community vendors and a dietitian to discuss packing a healthy lunch), and social responsibility (kids can create cards to send to U.S. soldiers overseas or bring in school-age books to donate to the L.A. Lee Library). Miami Heat James Jones will also be at the bash doing basketball clinics for the kids.
“YMCA of Broward County family centers are gearing up to provide back packs and school supplies for children in our underserved communities,” said Sheryl Woods, CEO of the YMCA of Broward County. “The children they help through this project will be filled with hope, joy and excitement as they start the school year.”
“Our YMCA members and community neighbors’ investment will provide these children the opportunity to start school with the tools to be successful,” added Dan Casey, Chairman of the YMCA of Broward County.
