Inclusion for the Y is not solely limited to the services offered to our program participants, but speaks to the involvement of parents, family members, community and school faculty in the after-school experience.
Diverse and innovative, the face of Y after-school programs are always evolving. Y programs have been changing the lives of school age children in Broward County for over 65 years.
The Y experience takes after-school programming above and beyond the quality standards that include:
Academic Enrichment-Homework Help/Tutoring
Literacy using KidzLit curriculum
Science Lessons & Projects using Afterschool Science Plus
Social Skills development using the PATHS curriculum
Technology
YFIT using SPARK curriculum
The day kicks off with opening ceremonies. Children and staff engage in call and response games, songs and chants together to set the tone for the afternoon events ahead. Opening ceremonies is followed by homework and healthy snack.
Certified teachers and counselors work hand-in-hand with small groups, providing tutoring and academic enrichment.
Kids hit the field to have extreme fun in at least 2 1/2 hours a week of active, heart-pumping play.
Throughout the day our themed curriculum promotes critical thinking, artistic self-expression and group activities that teach children to work collaboratively to solve problems and gain new experiences.
On early release days, non-school days and special events, children get the opportunity to participate in field trips and cultural enrichment activities lead by Broward County Cultural Arts Division approved art educators. Kids experience drama, dance, folk art, live theater, classical musicians, hands-on science, and much more!
It is the goal of every afterschool program to engage each participant, connect to every family and get them active in OUR SCHOOLS. Inclusion for the Y is not solely limited to the services offered to our program participants, but speaks to the involvement of parents, family members, community and school faculty in the after-school experience. How do we communicate? We use on-site parent centers, monthly newsletter and social media such as Twitter and Facebook to keep our families involved and up-to-date on all Y happenings.
The Y currently offers inclusion in 36 Elementary, Middle and High School locations
