CPR & First Aid Classes

The CPR course prepares participants to perform rescue breathing, chocking procedures, recognize cardiac emergencies and perform CPR. The First Aid course teaches participants how to assess injuries and sudden illnesses and provide initial care until advanced medical care arrives.
Ages 2 and up
If you feel that you work better in a one-on-one setting, want to work on specific skills or strokes, or you would like more flexible class times, private lessons are for you.
Ages 2 and up
Semi-Private Lessons are for two to three participants at the same skill level who would like to have a smaller setting than group lessons. Each participant must register individually. Y staff will not match participants. Please sign up at the same time as the participant with whom you would like to take the lesson.
Recreational Swim Team
Mondays—Thursdays 6:00—7:00pm (Ages 6-10)
Mondays—Thursdays 6:00—7:30pm (Ages 11-18)
Join our swim team to improve your stroke technique and endurance while making new friends! We have joined the South Florida Recreational Swim League making competitions an optional addition to your swimming experience. Participants should be able to swim 25 yards each of freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke.

Volunteer Swim Instructor Assistants
Are you a high school student in need of service hours? Are you a strong swimmer? Volunteer as a swim instructor assistant where you’ll work alongside certified swim instructors during swimming lessons. Swim instructor assistants will work both in the water and on the pool deck assisting with equipment set-up and class control. Participants should be able to swim 300 yards freestyle without stopping. Call or stop by the Aquatic Center to complete an application and schedule a date for an interview and swimming test.
Water Polo Fundamentals
Tuesdays & Thursdays 5:00—6:00pm
Water Polo is a fast-action Olympic team sport played in deep water. This program introduces children to this high-energy game with basic ball-handling and water-treading skills. Participants should be able to tread water for at least one minute and swim any stroke for a continuous three minutes. Each session is eight practices.
Progressive Group Swim Lessons:
INFANT & TODDLER
Ages 6-36 months
We provide a safe and fun environment for infants and toddlers to get adjusted to the water by playing games, singing songs, and practicing basic skills. Each child will progress individually according to his or her age and level of comfort in the water.
Ages 30 months—5 years
This is a water acclimation class for toddlers and preschool-aged children with no or little swimming experience who are uncomfortable in the water and who are not yet ready to begin moving through the water without the assistance of their parents. This class is transitional and will begin as a parent-and-child class with the goal of ending the session without parents in the water as an instructor-only led class.
This class is for beginners who are comfortable in the water and are ready to begin moving through the water independently. Seahorses should possess the physical and emotional maturity to remain comfortable in the water without the assistance of their parents. Class goals include blowing bubbles, putting their faces in the water, floating, jumping in, and paddling without support.
This class is for beginners who are uncomfortable in the water with little or no swimming experience. Class goals include water adjustment, blowing bubbles, kicking and floating. Instructional floatation devices may be used.
This class is for beginners who are comfortable in the water but who are not yet moving through the water independently. Children will continue to develop the skills learned at the Pike level and will continue to put their face in the water, floating, jumping in, and paddling without support.
This class is for intermediates who are moving through the water independently and who are ready to be introduced at a rudimentary level to the front and back crawl strokes, the sidestroke, the breaststroke, and the elementary backstroke.
This class is for intermediates who have been introduced to the five basic strokes taught at the Ray level, and who are ready to continue to develop those strokes. Diving may be introduced during this level.
This class is for beginners who have little or no previous experience in the water. Children will work on water adjustment and basic skills including blowing bubbles, the front and back float, getting their faces wet, and paddling on the front, back, and side.
This class is for beginners who are comfortable in the water and who are ready to be introduced at a rudimentary level to the front and back crawl strokes, the sidestroke, the breaststroke, and the elementary backstrokes. Rhythmic breathing, kneeling dives and somersaults are also introduced in this level.
This class is for intermediates who have been introduced to the five basic strokes taught at the Guppy level and who are ready to begin developing those strokes. Rotary breathing, standing dives, and the resting strokes are introduced.
This class is for intermediates who are continuing to develop the five strokes taught at the Guppy and Minnow levels and who are ready to be introduced at a basic level to the butterfly strokes. Open turns and surface dives are introduced.
This class is for advanced swimmers who have developed the front and back crawl strokes, the sidestroke, the breaststroke, and the elementary backstroke, and who are ready to continue to develop the butterfly strokes. Flip turns are introduced to the front and back crawl strokes.
Ages 13 and up
We provide swim lessons for both teens and adults. If you are a beginner or an experience swimmer we will fit the class to your goals and needs.
